The Perverted Mind
by JD Nutt, IG Web-Editor -  last updated July 1st, 2011 - Oklahoma City, OK.
On 06.21.2011 a press release from the FBI outlines the future of a Norman Oklahoma man. Twenty years for downloading child porn.
Of course their is more to the story. Oklahoma News 9 reported in November 2010 that Opie, 36, faced several state charges in Cleveland County of sexual misconduct with an underage boy.
Both the state and federal offenses allegedly occurred inside Opie's mobile home in Norman, Oklahoma.
The interesting part is the fact that the Federal "Project Safe Childhood", which is a comprehensive strategy to combat child exploitation, established in 2006, under the Bush administration, appears to be a highly effective tool to protect children from perverts. In 2009, 2315 indictments against 2427 defendants were filed.
Below is a copy of the Federal press release...
Norman Man to Serve 20 Years in Federal Prison for Downloading Child Porn

06.21.2011 - OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MICHAEL JAMES OPIE, 36, of Norman, Oklahoma, was sentenced by United States District Judge David L. Russell to serve 240 months in federal prison for downloading child pornography, announced Sanford C. Coats, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.

According to court records, Opie downloaded a video depicting the rape of a twelve-year-old boy. He pled guilty on September 30, 2010. After serving his federal prison sentence, Opie will be on supervised release for the rest of his life, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, the flagship program in the Department of Justice’s National Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction, and was the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Norman Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Hale.
